I’m Not Stoppin’

Track #10 of Umm… It’s Me

This is essentially a song about determination. It’s about me and my music, but it certainly could apply to most anything in life! The accompaniment consists of a virtual keyboard, bass and strings—for this edition of the album, I’ve added a drum track as well.

Most of my life I didn’t do much
except marry a wife and raise kids and such,
Work, eat and sleep, and otherwise
just sit around, getting fat.

I think I’m due for a paradigm shift,
and all that’s left in my pocket is a pair o’ dimes,
and I can’t do much with that.

Maybe I can alter my way of thinkin’,
modify my lifestyle too.
Is it too late in life to change direction?
Can I pull it off? Can I see it through?

Well, I think I’d better give it a heartfelt try,
give it all I’ve got and say “do or die”.
I don’t know what tomorrow will bring,
but today I’ve got a song to sing.

It seems like fun, and I’m not sure what I’ve begun,
but I know one thing: As far as I’m concerned,

Maybe someday I’ll be famous and rich;
I’ve been poor all my life, so that’ll be quite a switch,
But the riches and fame don’t matter to me;

because their lives are such a mess.

I’m determined to stay true and faithful to my wife and family.
I won’t trade my home for my life’s ambition
’cause the ones I love mean so much to me.

Well, I’d rather take a spaceship and fly to the moon,
but I don’t see that happ’nin’ any time soon.
So I’ll stick around on earth for a while,
and live my life with grace and style.
