I Will Praise You

Track #6 of Umm…

Back in the early ’90s Jon Grice, pastor of Roxbury Church of Christ, preached a sermon about Jesus accepting us — sort of the flip-side of our accepting Him as Lord and Savior. He said that we can bask in the total acceptance of a loving Savior, because He takes us to Himself unconditionally. That sermon inspired this song.

Accompaniment consists of a virtual keyboard, bass, drums and a string section. I sang both of the backup vocals.

When I think of all You suffered
on the day You were crucified —
As if it wasn’t enough to be beaten,
You were pierced, and You bled and died;
And on top of all that came the total rejection
of both God and man —
Oh, the depth of love that made You do this
I simply fail to understand.

I’m blown away by Your love,
Overwhelmed by Your grace,
And I’m totally amazed
at how You move in this place;
I’m looking forward to that day
when we meet face to face —
I will praise You for Your goodness, O Lord.

Sittin’ in the back pew of the church
Sunday morning with my family,
Singing the songs about Jesus,
How He died to set us free,
But my mind is wandering elsewhere
’til they pass the bread and the cup,
and the elements remind me
of what Jesus gave up for us,
And as I’m sitting here in comfort,
it dawns on me that we’re basking
in the total acceptance of a loving Savior;
He was rejected so we could be accepted,
And He tasted death so we could have life!

I’m blown away by Your love,
Overwhelmed by Your grace,
And I’m totally amazed
at how You move in this place;
I’m looking forward to that day
when we meet face to face —
I will praise You for Your goodness, O Lord.

I’m blown away by Your love,
Overwhelmed by Your grace,
And I’m totally amazed
at how You move in this place;
I’m looking forward to that day
when we meet face to face —
I will praise You for Your goodness, O Lord.

I will praise You for Your goodness, O Lord.
