…with a silent “h”

I’m the Umm

Track #3 of Umm…

Friends, family and acquaintances all agree that I can be sort of a nut at times (most would say more often than that). Unable to resist temptation, I had to put one goofy song on this album.

In this song, I am the Ummamum (say UMM-a-mum), whom you see pictured here. Often called simply “the Umm,” he is our ambassador of goodwill, the goofy guy that tries to cheer you up when bad times get you down.

Happiness is contagious, and the Ummamum seems to work much the same way. “Umm the Mmm” is a funny way of saying that it’s okay to be the Umm, or to be happy, maybe even silly sometimes. Really! We often need to lighten up a bit; it’s a great stress reliever.

A virtual nylon string guitar provides the only accompaniment for this song, and the vocal is “naked,” with no dynamic compression at all. This gives the song a “live” feel.

I’m the Umm, and umm the Mmm,
And you know where to find me,
Because if not beside, then you’re
In front of or behind me.

I’m the Umm, and umm the Mmm,
And you know where to find me,
’Cause I’m right here
Standing next to you.

For I am all around, you see,
In happy people standing;
Why, then, are you mystified,
My whereabouts demanding?

I’m the Umm, and umm the Mmm,
And you know where to find me,
’Cause I’m right here
Standing next to you.

’Cause I’m the Umm, the only Umm.
There’ll never be another one;
Whatever that means, you know it’s true:
I’ll always try to bring a smile to you.

Join me, if you wish to be
Adventurous and daring;
For many more are just like me,
But most are never caring.

I’m the Umm, and umm the Mmm,
And you know where to find me,
’Cause I’m right here
Standing next to you.

’Cause I’m right here
Standing next to you.
