…with a silent “h”

My Star

Track #12 of The Child in You

Based on a poem by Peg Nelson, used by permission.

I had considered repeating part of the song to make it longer, and even adding a key change, but finally I decided to keep it just as written. In addition to the piano, I used a “Star Theme” keyboard voice for both the treble and bass.

Last night as I stood alone,
and gazed at heaven’s sights,
I wished that I might have a star
to brighten darkest nights.

God must have heard my wishes,
for as tho’ to bid me well,
From heaven sent a star to earth,
where in my hand it fell.

I put it in my pocket
and took it right on home,
But who could see it twinkle
if I kept it for my own?

Right then I sent it back to God;
my star now all can see,
But secretly within my heart,
I know it shines for me.
