Candace Celebrates EP, Prepares for Move

Candace Griffin is celebrating the fourth anniversary of the release of her first EP, "A Lesson in Keeping Quiet." On June 28, she posted a live 32-minute video in which she plays through the songs and comments on them; it’s well worth watching.

The original EP, released on Bandcamp on June 27, 2013, can be found here. Tracks 1, 3, and 4 were remastered by The Fur Trade (Danial Monson-Bergum) in October, 2014. Tracks 2 and 6 were remastered by Charlie Petitt in December, 2014, from originals recorded on Candace’s laptop computer.

Candace, after spending some time in Tennessee (and traveling back and forth to Wisconsin for visits), will be moving back to Wisconsin in July. We are all very excited at the prospect of having her back again!

Kharlie to Play Twice; New Music Coming

I (Kharlie M) will be singing a hymn for a funeral on Monday, July 3; a dear lady from our church, Kathleen Cowan, passed away this week.

I will also be playing a set at 3:30 pm on July 4 at Midwest Christian Center for an Independence Day celebration. Several others will also perform at this event.

I am also working on new music, including a remix of “The Child in You” which includes backup vocals and some more instruments. It sounds pretty good, but I am still working the bugs out of it. I also have some uke tracks recorded for “A Tale of Three Brothers” which has never been recorded before.

More Local Winners

Jeff Robichaud (Clouds as Mountains) is working on some new recordings; as of this writing, his latest Facebook post was on June 8 (right after the last newsletter).

Mackenzie Benish (of Prone to Sorrow) took a 1st place win at the talent competition at Voigt Music Center on June 22.

Robbie Haas (Elmer and the Ceramic Trees) performed at Voigt Music Center on June 23 as part of the Friday Local Feature Series. More great shows will follow this summer.

WADR, 103.5 FM, ran the 2 year anniversay episode of "In the Stratosphere" with Derek Schyvinck on June 29 from 8 to 10 pm. A wide variety of local talent was featured. In addition to hosting the radio show each week, Derek runs Gemini Music Studios, which records a lot of local music.
