The Child in You

Album cover

Though I haven’t recorded any new material in a while, I have an older song that is appropriate for these turbulent times, when a lot of people seem to be at odds with each other. It’s called “The Child in You” (2:34), and it was my first official recording as Kharlie M. Listen and let it brighten your day!

Jennifer Ruse Hosts Open Mic

The Open Mic at Mocha Moment on Wednesday, November 16, was hosted by Jennifer Ruse (Ken Wagman was away). Jenn did a great job; a few others helped with the sound from time to time, and all was well.

Jennifer opened the show. A new performer named Wayne sang old-time showtunes, a cappella, doing a fine job. Next was Jesse Ramirez (Mystery Mirrors), then Robbie Haas (Elmer and the Ceramic Trees). I followed after that, with rare covers of Roger Miller and Smash Mouth before doing my own original “My Hometown.” David Lawrence played after me, then Rob Allen, completing the show.

Candace Covers Local Artists

Candace

Candace Griffin has been quite active on her Facebook music page. In addition to the songs she writes herself, she has shared albums and pages of some friends. Recently, she has posted a new cover song each Thursday—a cover of a song from a close friend. Each cover is followed in the video with a brief review of the artist and their original version, which plays in the background. Very nicely done.

Plenty of New Music

The Fur Trade has a new song out, called “Around the Sun” (3:54). It is well-done with good production, and relaxing to listen to.

Elmer and the Ceramic Trees is the solo project of Robbie Haas, a local alt-rock performer who is getting better all the time. Robbie has announced that his new album, entitled Maps of Outer Space, will be finished soon—possibly in December.

Kat and the Hurricane is working on a 6-track EP entitled Miles Away, set for release on January 1, 2017. This album will have the distinction of being the first of the new year!
