The h is silent; the music isn’t.

The Passing of Time

Track #8 of Come On, Kharlie M

While sorting through some old papers in 1991, the chorus for this song came to me. I didn’t make up the verses until 2004. In 2006, I put the lyrics into a text document and recorded the vocal tracks, intending to put the song on my Umm… album in 2007. It never made it. In July of 2018, I finished composing the accompaniment so the song could go on this album.

VERSE 1:
Oh, the steps of time they are marching
And the sands of time are flowing down
With each passing year we get older
Soon the end of our lives will come around
Oh, the outlook’s bleak, I can assure you
So we might as well do something that will last
So let’s make sweet memories for our children
So they’ll remember us when we are past

CHORUS:
Oh, the passing of time makes me weary
Oh, the passing of time gets me down
When you see all the things that keep changing
It can turn a healthy smile to a frown

VERSE 2:
Oh, the wonders of medical science
We can live much healthier than before
Many people now are living longer
Some folks live to see a hundred years or more
But they still fleet by as but a moment
For life is just a vapor, don’t you see
And our length of days is infinitesimal
When you compare it with eternity

CHORUS:
Oh, the passing of time makes me weary
Oh, the passing of time gets me down
When you see all the things that keep changing
It can turn a healthy smile to a frown

BRIDGE:
Oh, the years are flying by so swiftly now
One no sooner begins than it’s gone
As the memories commence to fade away
Some may lose the will to carry on

CHORUS:
Oh, the passing of time makes me weary
Oh, the passing of time gets me down
When you see all the things that keep changing
It can turn a healthy smile to a frown

Da da da da da da…
