‘The Child in You’ Now Available

Cover art

Kharlie’s latest album can now be heard on Bandcamp, SoundCloud, Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and of course, on Kharlie.com in the Music section. In addition, CDs are available at The Exclusive Company in Janesville or directly from the artist.

Kharlie is anxious to play live shows again. So far, the June 16 open mic at Mocha Moment has been the only opportunity since the COVID lockdowns. He plans to play more open mics and begin doing some other in-person live shows as well.

So what’s next from Kharlie M? More releases are in the works, and most likely yet this year. I won’t kid you: I’m Kharlie M, and I’m currently trying to decide whether to remake Wedding Day with improved audio and extra tracks, or to proceed with another album, maybe To Wendi With Love or Songs in the Key of M. As soon as I decide and get well underway with the work, I’ll let you know!

New Logo

You may have already noticed that the Kharlie M logo on the website is new and slightly different, a bit fancier than the old one. You have my wife, Wendi, to thank for that one. As the release of The Child in You neared, Wendi suggested that I get a new logo to “kick it up” a little. The new logo has gotten positive feedback from several people who have seen it.

I should probably change the name of this newsletter to simply “Kharlie M News,” incorporating the new logo. But so far, I’m a little fond of “The Mmming Report. It’s Kharlie M, Still Hummin’ Along.” What do you think? Send me any ideas you might come up with.

The Challenge Ahead

My latest album came together more quickly than Umm… or Come On, Kharlie M did. This was because most of the songs were recorded years ago. “My Star” was recorded in December of 2012; I only added the treble and bass Star Theme instruments this year. The title track was recorded in 2015, and the backup vocals and more instruments were added in 2017. Four songs were recorded in 2016, one in 2017, and two in 2018; a few of these got extra instruments this year. Only three songs were recorded entirely this year. It took some “magic” and a bit of assembly to complete the album, but much of the work was previously done.

By contrast, of the three albums remaining to be released (not counting the possible Wedding Day remake), only three songs out of 32 have been recorded, and some of the recordings are not great. One song isn’t even entirely written. Needless to say, this will present quite a challenge… but I’m looking forward to diving into it.
