…with a silent “h”
Track #5 of With These Songs We Wed
This song was written by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, who lived in Janesville, Wisconsin at the time; coincidentally, this is both my hometown and my current city of residence! The 1906 edition of the musical score was used for this album; it is now in the public domain. It has been a traditional wedding song for many years.
I love you truly, truly, dear,
Life with its sorrow, life with its tear,
Fades into dreams when I feel you are near,
For I love you truly, truly, dear.
Ah! love, ’tis something to feel your kind hand,
Ah! yes, ’tis something by your side to stand,
Gone is the sorrow, Gone doubt and fear,
For you love me truly, truly, dear.
