…with a silent “h”

Fanfare Medley

Track #1 of With These Songs We Wed

This is the first Kharlie M song ever to be entirely instrumental, so of course there are no lyrics. It has a convincing regal feel, as if you’re watching the wedding party enter the king’s palace… but actually the instruments aren’t real; they were all done on the computer!

What makes this piece effective is the composition. It begins with an eight-note intro that doesn’t occur anywhere else on the album. Then the ensemble (two trumpets, a trombone, and a tuba) plays parts of three songs: “Wedding Day,” “Bright Happy Day,” and “When Love Overtakes,” though the latter is modified with a different rhythmic figure at the start of it, and its melody ends a bit differently than in the vocal version. Finally, there is a nine-note outro which is similar to the intro; it also is unique to this piece.
