Record Label: Ummamum Music
Release date: March 14, 2023
Though this album is intended to be used for weddings, commitment services, vow renewals, or anniversaries, it is suitable for everyday listening as well.
The original Wedding Day EP, released in 2011, included only tracks 2, 4, 7, and 10 of this album. A few lines of the lyrics in track 2, “Wedding Day,” were rewritten and re-recorded in 2016; the new version appears on this album.
The 2011 release was created especially for our son, Joe Petitt, and his wife, Elizabeth, for their wedding. They asked me to write a song for the lighting of the unity candle; I wrote “When Love Overtakes” and was then inspired to write “Wedding Day” and “Father’s Prayer.” I had written “Groom’s Bridal March” some years earlier and decided to include it as well. That song became the processional for the wedding, and when “Father’s Prayer” was played for the first dance at the reception, I was reduced to tears, as were many other people. That—and the entire day, for that matter—was a very moving and unforgettable experience.
The opening piece, “Fanfare Medley,” is the first Kharlie M song ever to be entirely instrumental. It has a convincing regal feel to it, despite its being done entirely on the computer. “Bright Happy Day” is a bouncy, celebratory song. “The Commitment Waltz” has a country feel to it, while “Husband and Wife,” also in 3/4 time, leans more toward classical. “I Love You Truly” and “Always” are both traditional wedding songs.
